I have 2 clowns that seem to have some sort of bacterial infection. I want to set up a 10 gallon hospital tank. I’m going to grab a 10 gallon tank, hob filter, and heater. What else do I need? Obviously I won’t have time to cycle this tank, so how do I keep it safe for the fish? Any other advice?

Get some Bio Spira. Soak your filter material in it for at least a couple of hours. If room in your HOB, add some ceramic bio material like Fluval Bio Max or Seachem Matrix. Soak it also in the Bio Spira.
Add a foam bubble filter to your list of equipment. Soak the foam in the Bio Spira.
Treat the water with the Bio Spira.
Get a Seachem ammonia alert badge for the tank. Trust the badge. Works best when reading if you illuminate the badge from behind it with a small flashlight.

Done, done, done. What am I doing if ammonia becomes present? A 10 gallon water change isn’t hard if that’s what’s needed

exactly that. If ammonia goes up do a water change... so have 5g water ready just in case
