What is needed to setup a frag tank?

Is live rock needed?

Basic filter... is a skimmer necessary?

Proper lighting

Powerhead

Heater

Frag racks

Is it drilled? I had one that I drilled, so there was an overflow that went into a sump which had a skimmer. I kept rock rubble in there as well so the tank was free with more space. If you need a thermometer, put one in there, adequate lighting and flow. Do you plan on putting some form of substrate or will it be a bare bottom?

I plan on having it just a bare bottom tank. Is live rock necessary? And also, is there things that the skimmer needs to pull out, considering there’s no fish in there?

Coral like fish poop so think about one or two. I would throw some sort of surface area for your benificial bacteria to grow. Rock rubble would work. And as long as there is waste, a skimmer will do work.
