Hi every one, I have a situation with my water and the salinity was way to high to the point that my corals was not opening like they used to, I change the water supplier guy and start to notice the problem, Today after check the salinity was sky rock and I empty 5 gallons of water from my tank and replace them with 5 of fresh water and add water primer to be able to lower the salinity, I notice that my corals start to open again some,
What you guys think about the best way to lower the salinity on your fish tank the safe way with out upset your corals and fishes?

Do you have an Auto top off on your tank?

Remove some salt water, and replace the same exact amount you took out with pure RODI water. Doing it a little bit a day will lower your salinity overtime. Key is you want to do it slowly so your corals can adapt to the change overtime and not cause a sudden shock

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
I shock them ....... hahhahahahahaaaaa nah they looks ok that's why I change only 5 gallons out of 70 and add the same amount back into the tank.

could you quantify "sky high" for us pls?

Best yes, best way is to replace salt water with fresh, but do so slowly. Something like 1.0029>1.0028 every few hours or so (also that might be off by one 0 haven't tested salt water in a while ;) )

I did this recently I had a Faulty hydrometer my salt was sky high for a long time, anyways I was taking out 5 gallons of salt water and adding 5 gallons of RODI water back per day I was taking about an hour or so to add the 5 gallons of water back did this for about 4 days until I got to my desire #s, I went from 1.035 to 1.025

Mine was all the way to the top I was saying my corals are going to die ...I put the water thru my sump that way it enters to the tank and mix almost immediately to the rest of the water in the tank...I still have some more to empty but I already seeing improvement, my corals are waking up.

Looks like you're on the right track then - good luck! What are you using to test your salinity anyway? I used to use those plastic hydrometers until I actually purchased a refractometer - I will never go back to a hydrometer again lol

When changing any levels, do it gradually as thus sudden change in large volume Will create issues beyond what you're contending with.

That's my next purchase

I wrote something in regards to hydrometer, if your doing fish only you could probably get away with it but coral tanks nooooo, we save a good $10-20 that down the road can give us such a headache lol

Just another reason to never trust the place where you get your water from. A minute or two to test salinity of the SW or TDS of ro/di could save yourself huge headaches.
