how to start the system

ok, 1st sump install in a new tank. so, how do you start it up. fill the tank and sump to the mark and just plug it in? fill the tank and let it fill the sump? shadow overflow if the makes a difference. need a guideline. thanks.

Fill the tank, fill the sump, start the system, add water if needed without adding too much so sump will overflow if there's a power outage.
