how to sterilize and clean used live rock?

If I buy someone else's live rock from an old tank how would I go about cleaning it and guaranteeing that it won't cause problems for me?

For starters I won't be putting it in my tank for 6 months or more, but I want to clean it off really well. I think I read something about an acid wash in the past?

Muriatic acid baths.

Search for it and you will find all the details (lots of threads on it here any everywhere). If its got lots of green and organic material I would bleach first and then do a muriatic acid bath.
