How to sterilize QT after Uronema?

The last 2 CBB I have tried to put in my quarantine died in almost the exact same fashion. They came home from the store eating and looking amazing. Next day skiddish and not really eating. Day 2 something seems wrong. Day 3 very heavy breathing. Day 4 red bruises all around gills and then they die. My question is how can make sure I eradicate this horrible parasite from my QT and make sure it doesn't spread to my display?

I recently lost 3 Anthias to Uronema in QT, after a bit of research on sterilizing the tank post infection I washed everything in fresh water, refilled the QT tank with fresh water added bleach (a fair amount) and ran it for a couple of weeks, rewashed with fresh water and let it dry thoroughly.

Where did you get your fish from?

The "parasite" is normal and ubiquitous in the ocean. It feeds on decaying matter and is part of the recycle function of the ocean. You can definitely sterlize, but I don't think it will do much. Not much is know about why or how this benign protoza becomes the killer that it is.

It is the bane of most retailers and collectors because it spreads fast and kills quicker.

I suspect conditions are it's root cause. If I get a fish with it, I won't buy from the place again.

Remove everything from qt. Sand, rock, air stone throw away. Everything else after tank is drained spray vinegar or bleach and give a wipe down and rinse. Let everything dry for at least 3 days with a fan blowing on it. Slightest moisture anywhere will have a chance to populate. Uronema is sometimes beating treatment so after fish is done in qt put in a clean holding tank for at least 2 weeks to observe behavior
Uronema doesn’t have a life cycle. It can feed on fish, algae, detritus so it’s a hard one to remove from a system.

Thank you so much for all your advice. This is my second CBB from the same store that died this way in my QT. Going to take everything in my backyard and rinse with hose then some in bleach water then leave to air dry for a long period. Any recommendations on ration of bleach/water to soak everything in?

sounds more like ammonia poisoning or flukes or something to me. Were you testing params? What did you feed the CBB and what was its condition when first added? (Health in the store)

I tried QT'ing a batch of chromis unsuccessfully. they all died of uronema similar to op's experience.

I bleached the tank/filter/equipment, and set it back up again. No issues with uronema since.

sounds more like ammonia poisoning or flukes or something to me. Were you testing params? What did you feed the CBB and what was its condition when first added? (Health in the store)

This QT has been cycled for about 6 months and has had about 6 fish successfully process through there in that time. I have an ammonia badge and do very frequent water changes. Before I introduced him I did a 75% water change and another 25% when he was 3 days in. So I think it's safe to say ammonia definitely is not an issue. As for flukes, the store I purchased from does freshwater dips on everything when it comes in. Also I dosed Prazipro and saw 0 signs of any whatsoever. The red "bruises" they started at gills and later ran through his entire body and looks exactly like the pictures of uronema on Google. Like the pic below only much much more sever and all over his body towards the end.

Drain it all and I use bleach straight. Spray on wipe around rinse. The absence of moisture and water will be what kills the Disease

OK got it. So first I will take outside and rinse everything with hose. Than air dry. Than spray down and wipe with bleach. Then rinse again heavily. Then let air dry for a week or so. Then I will restart system. Sound solid?

I have big tubs of bleach wipes I use for cleaning my tank, while all the equipment soaks in bleach. I wipe the entire inside of the tank down really good with bleach wipes. Being sure to get all the rim and corners/seams really good, then let it air dry. Once completely dry, I refill it, empty it, then refill and add prime/ammo guard to make sure all the bleach (chlorine) is gone. Refill with fresh salt water and start cycling.

My QT tank has an HOB filter with sponges and filter floss for filtration.
I soak my filter and sponges in bleach and reuse them, but replace the filter floss each time I tear it down and restart.

ah. I thought you meant redness mostly exclusive to and around the gills.
