How to stop my micro bubbles??

My protein skimmer is putting out just a small amount of micro bubbles in my sump that are getting returned into my tank. What can I do to prevent this ? I know your not supposed to put sponges or something in between the baffles. So any other ideas or can I put something in between? They are so small and such a little amount, you can't even see unless you are against the glass. But the are in my main tank and sticking to all the rock. ( The second pic it the skimmer return. You can see the bubbles coming out of the black grate box.)

It's set to its lowest setting . Any lower and it wouldn't skim.

Have you always had this problem when using this skimmer or is this a new one?
