I currently have a 3 gallon pico stocked with zoas, duncans, acans, and hammer corals. I want to get sexy shrimp for the pico but I heard they eat zoas. How do I prevent them from doing this? Will daily feeding for enough? Thanks.

When I first got my sexy shrimp they were driving me nuts as they were constantly picking at my corals, or so I thought.

I’ve now had them quite a while and don’t see them doing any harm. They’re good cleaners for Pico tanks, and will rummage around the corals, but I don’t really see them doing any damage.

I have also read report of them not being reef-safe (hence my concerns) and I’m sure there will always be exceptions, but I’ve placed subsequent orders as I think the (low) risk is worth the reward.

Keep in mind, people have blamed their zoas dying on every single possible animal on this hobby. I guarantee you someone has said their cat ate their zoas and then asked what cats are reef safe. Hermit crabs are the favorite scapegoat in this hobby for zoa deaths, followed by amphipods.

No issues with sexy shrimp and zoas here. Mine lives in my hammer and doesn’t bother anything. It will take a food pellet from a pair of tweezers and work on that for hours

My sexy’s ate my 3 zoa rocks , one after another. And they taste test my other corals too. But they are so sexy I can’t stay mad at them. It’s a chance, anything can eat anything. (I put those zoa rocks into another tank and the zoas are slowly growing back)
