How to suffer from Palythoa Toxicity

you gotta watch this stuff, it's not joke! I had a buddy who was working in his tank not wearing protection, scrapped his arm on a jagged piece of LR, as it turns out his tank was loaded with zoas/palys and it got him good, his arm blew up and he had a very harsh reaction, as matter of fact he is now afraid to stick his hands in his tank and sorta lost interest in the hobby all together after that incident..

I must be one of the immune ones......I was fragging PD's and did the same thing, blade slipped, went right into my finger. Nothing. Got it in my eye, nothing.... but then, the luck will run out sooner or later im sure! :crossedlips:

i am in the same boat as alot of people in this thread. i have been fraging for nearly 10 years now at VERY high volume almost daily and never had any problems. paly toxin is real and can cause some problem but in sort it is not even close to as bad as some articles make it out to be.

you have to think of it like this. MOST people will never have any ill effect the tiny amount found in the corals we handel in the trade are very minute if at all. kinda like a bee sting. most have zero problems but for some it can mean life or death. same goes for paly toxin. you got a better chance of being struck by lightning then having a reaction to you polyps.

BUT as with all things that carry risk it is better safe then sorry. ya never know if your one of the ones that will have a reaction.
