How to travel with frags

For those that travel to/from distant swap meets, more specifically those that fly to/from.

How do you transport frags through an airport. Are you allowed to carry it on or is it a check in only item?

Going to be on vacation in Florida in the fall and plan to visit SEVERAL lfs the makn one hopefully being WWC. And I would like to come home with a handful of frags.

Box them up (like you were shipping them out) and check it. You don't want to roll the dice with TSA at the security checkpoint.

So if u r going with wwc u got to take advantage of there shipping I think u get a week of doa
Second I have done it I went to reef a palooza were shipping isn't there and u have to call the airline company for some reason mine didn't allow styrofoam so I put my 9 frags in a big thermos and check it with my bag no problems

Put them in a small cooler inside your checked luggage; no issues in doing so. Carry-on isn't worth the hassle.

That's what I figured, just didn't know if there was a special process like traveling with dogs or cats.

Only reason I would rather carry on is due to the ability to limit them shaking or getting thrown around.

@That guy yea I've purchased from WWC before. They have an excellent shipping department, would just rather have it immediately when I get home over waiting another day or so.

i say go to fedex before you leave and ship it to your self so it arrives the next day when home.
Luggage can get lost. fed ex is track able.

Google thread. Glad you chimed in. I wonder why that thread didn't show when I searched before posting.

I've always heard you can wrap coral in wet napkins and paper and they would survive. Never tried it. Closes I've gotten to that is keeping a few large pieces moist while repairing arranging aquascape was for maybe 45 minutes.

What the baggage handlers do is far less worse than the average box through a shipping facility.

I worked at one of the large shipping companies through college. Yes, they don't get handled with the best of care... But if you have great packaging it won't matter. It's not like they try to do anything malicious to the packages.
