So here’s my situation, I have two QTs set up, a 40g and a 20g. Both are being treated with copper. Two days ago I added prazipro to both qts. The inhabitants of the 40g were fine, and a yellow tang in the 20 g died. The only other member of the 20 g is my pajama cardinalfish, which I have had for 8 years, so I really don’t want to lose him. He has been acting strange, but from my visual inspection he has torn fins (fin rot) and cloudy eyes (both eyes so most likely bacteria) and he will not eat. I have furan and kanaplex. He is in copper and the treatment ends this saturday (40 days). What should I do?

It’s been at least 30 days of full therapeutic copper?

If so, I’d remove the copper and start the antibiotics (kanaplex + furan-2) now without it. Also, don’t forget your second praziquantel treatment 5-7 days after the first.

And if you have it, a 90-minute acriflavine bath might be helpful as well. Copper is an immunosuppressant, so secondary infections are not uncommon when treating.

When I do the bath, do I remove the copper or allow it to mix?

Nope, You’ll want to use a separate container with fresh saltwater. I use a 5-gallon bucket, small heater, and an airline.
