how to treat for white ich?

well my blue tang has ich or what I believe is ich. she has white spots on her body but is still swimming about the tank, eating and doing all that like normal. I have a do gallon that I'm going to set up but I need to get filter media for the hob filter first. any tips on how to treat ich in quarantine? what treatments to give? do I need to test for anything? do I need rock or sand in the tank? planned on using water from my display and some media from my dt as well. thank you for any and all advice <3

Pictures are a bit blue but does appear to be ich. Hopefully you are able to set up a quarantine tank for treatment. The treatment of choice for the tang will be copper safe. WHEN TREATING WITH ANY FORM OF COPPER, YOU MUST HAVE A RELIABLE TEST KIT AND MONITOR COPPER LEVELS (2.2)
The feeding stage of the parasite that attaches itself to the fish, commonly associated with salt or sugar-like “sprinkles” on the body or fins. These sprinkles are not the actual parasite, as all stages of ich are invisible to the naked eye but rather mucus from the parasite that is latched onto fish. The fish may show symptoms such as flashing, scratching, twitching and heavy breathing which are indicators of ich.
To use Coppersafe, add 1 teaspoon of medication for every 4 gallons of water, or 1 cup of every 190 gallons. The solution will remain active in the tank for more than one month. Be sure to add aeration /oxygen during treatment.

Red Sea, Salifert or hanna. Copper is chelated in this form and can be toxic if overdosed. Budget does not fit into treatment of disease on my end.

Yeah I just can’t afford to spend 100+ on a test kit at the moment. I thought they might be since it’s special but all the brands have been pretty affordable from what I’ve seen. Thank you very much!

API kit will work but Hanna is better. I actually use both. API as back up. get the correct type of kit for the copper you decide on.

the fish is your pet and so like if you took your dog to the vet, you'd end up paying a lot to treat a life threatening disease. I don't think a couple hundred is much to save a pets life. these costs are something to consider before buying a pet. good luck.
