One of my acros has red bugs..my others are fine but this one has got em........

How do i treat it...its being dipped in iodine right now.

I need help asap!

I think i see eggs with my magnifying glass? or am i just to hyped up

Only thing that has been proven to kill red bugs is interceptor. The iodine may stun the bugs but won't kill them. If you have found them on one coral they are likely everywhere else in the tank. I would do a total system treatment if it was my system. I'm on my mobile right now so I don't have a link to the interceptor treatment but you should be able to Google it.

Oh and as far as I know red bugs are live bearers so there shouldn't be any eggs.

Good luck and be sure to remove all Crabs and shrimp before treatment.

I have NO inverts so i shoudl be able to do this treatment.....

Can i put the acro back in the tank for 1 day? as i dont have a holding tank????

about 15 minutes...i put it back and saw 2 bugs left...alot fell off...but i guess 1 could eqaul 100 so i read about the interceptor treatment and i have to do 3 and change 25% wekly while dosing........so how do i get a vet to let me buy this?

But whats the dosage..thats the only part im confused about

Hey KLR - take a deep breath...; ) This is something that all of us SPS buffs have to go through from time to time (and they will only affect acros). If you are just noticing them on one piece, it's not going to kill anything in the short term. They will aggravate the coral but you are fine for now. Just go to your local vet (if you don't have pets) just choose one close by. Take some literature in with you showing proven efficacy of Interceptor on Redbugs. Any vet will connect the dots and will likely sell you a couple of pills. Vets usually sell these out of their office so they make money on them when they sell them. As long as you have a proven use for it, you should be fine.

Melev's site has a great article on treatment. Read it, read it again, and then read it again. Just make sure you follow instructions. It's really not a big deal at all but you should plan on treating your tank 2-3 times to ensure any new hatchlings are killed.

Here is the link. Give this a read and then post whatever questions you may have. We're here to help. Just know that nothing is going to die tonight....: )

Melevsreef.com - Interceptor | Red Bug treatment

interceptor is pretty safe, alot safer than treating for planaria etc.. I have treated my tank probably 10 times in the last 3 years without any issues. It will stun the crabs and shrimp and make it easier to get them out. 1- 23mg pill supposedly treated 380g but I usually double the dose. Leave the skimmer going but cut the air off. take out carbon. crush up pill and shake in a container of tank water then pour in display. The stuff doesnt dissolve that easily. 6 hours later you can start skimming etc. With iodine, the red bugs will come off with slime from the acro but wont kill them. Are you sure its red bugs?

a few ?s

whats the ratio of tablet% to gallons

how much water do you take out after each treatment

Doing three treatments to begin with is far less stressful to the hobbyist than having repeat outbreaks. Consider the second and third to be insurance. I wound never do just one dosing. I have about 85 gallons in my system and I use 1/4 of a 23 mg tab per dosing. Works like a charm.

well a few hours after my dip i now see no bugs on this acro but im sur e they are still in my tank..so once i see them again im going to do the treatment

Ok
the iodine i did earlier did not killed them...but stunned them so i did 3 dips..and i know see no red bugs so im going to wait until i see any for treatment
