How To Use a New Powerhead?

Hi All-
Just wondering if you folks just plop your new powerhead or pump straight out of the box and into your tank or do you soak it or wash it first in RO/DI water and/or vinegar? Thanks in advance!

I'm sure rinsing it is a good idea. I never do though.

I run my new toys in a 5 gallon bucket of hot tap water for a while, scrub it down then rinse and run in ro. Who knows who has touched it with what kind of mechanical fluid or whatever? Great question!

Yeah, that's exactly what I was wondering about......what sort of industrial nasties might be still on it. Thanks! Good protocol to employ!
