Hi All,
Seems like a silly question...
how to use a mysis flat pack (sheet of mysis, not cubes)?

Should i take the whole flat pack, cut it with shears or a cookie cuter, then store it, or do i pinch off the bits i need every day ?

how do you use it?

thanks for the tips...

lately i've be using this method for all flatpacks including mysis and LRS.

little bit of work but flatpacks more cost effective vs cubes and this helps with portion control vs breaking off random chunks.
Unfortunately, I personally do not agree with this method. LRS actually advises to not thaw their food until you actually need to use it as the products degrades and also allows for bacteria growth. I like the convenience but think cutting in cubes yourself might preserve the food better.

sure

The thawing and refreezing will break down cell walls in the food and turn it more "soupy" when it thaws to be fed. I think it reduces the nutritional value of the food.

Dropping it works well too.

Sweet thanks all... counter whacking club, here I come!

I can always pinch off a piece between my thumb and index finger, but when that fails the counter awaits. I really like the flat sheets. Thaws clean.

I buy flat packs that are about 3 pound blocks. I will break the counter before this block ever breaks. I have to use a chisel and a hammer to break smaller pieces but i leave it frozen never thawing/refreezing. Use smaller broken pieces as I need them.

I just got my mini cube freezer trays. My plan is to mix the various frozen foods I have no together and make my own cubes. I'll probably DIY my next batch courtesy of krogers seafood counter and the local Asian market.

I just put the trays in my amazon basket and was thinking about the oyster-feast and roe mix I already feed, I am gonna try adding myssis and ??? to feed corals and fish in one shot....I might need a more bigger cube;)
@BRS Did you folks do a DIY on food prep

I tried to break a piece off with my thumb and finger, but it was not for moving. Quick tap on the counter and a shout of "what the heck was that?" from the lounge and it's all good. I find it a tad greasy compared to standard cube food though. I usually defrost a thumbnail or so of mysis, but still add in some cube krill and brineshrimp.
