I have purchased my potassium nitrate, and I'm ready to start dosing. I guess the science is confusing. The tank is a 75, with sump, so with gravel and rock, I'm guessing it stays around 75g. My nitrate stays at 0, and I'd like to get it up to about 5ppm. I would like to dissolve the solution in a 1 gallon container. So, if I think I'm doing it right, I put 75g for tank volume, and mixing it into 3785ml (1g), and some random number of grams of potassium nitrate, and then it tells me how much 1ml of solution is raising my tank to whatever ppm of nitrate.
