Just added water to my new tank (very happy), how do I work out the amount of flow I have?

The tank is a Nuvo 14g but I guess there is only 10g of water after rock etc

The return is an Eheim compactoN 1000, which gives 400-1000 litres per hour, I have the dial on half, and I have my MP 10 on reefcrest at 50%, it is rated at 6000 litres per hour.

My guess is the return is around 700 litres per hour but not sure on how to estimate the MP10?

The MP10 at 1/2 is plenty for a 14g tank. Maybe too much depending on what you want to keep.

I thought it might be, I was expecting water coming over the sides of the tank or at least the sand moving, even the return at 50% doesn’t seem to be having much effect.

Planning on LPS, I expect when the tank clears and also start adding fish/corals I will have more to go off.

In such a small tank I think you have plenty and if anything watch for signs if too much.

in tanks with SPS/acropora more flow is better but with softies and lps you don’t want as much.

It wasn’t mentioned but I assume your having no issues with your substrate as some people find that an issue if blowing around Or leaving empty spaces with high areas in other places.

Keep an eye on your lps. I have a Nuvo16 and over the years I learned that bare bottom or SPS/acros need a much different power in regards to flow but possibly your rock is protecting your corals with your layout and placement.

Thanks, yeah as said I’m surprised the sand it’s moving at all, I did rinse it before adding it, so maybe that’s helping.
