Despite the fact that I had a tube of reef safe silicone, my contractor used a tube of mildew resistant silicone around the top of the tank to seal the eurobrace to the wood cabinet facing. It’s not constant contact, but I’m worried about it since inevitably I will wipe down and salt creep and water will spill back in.

I brought up my concern with him and he said he will cut it out and reseal it tomorrow. Worth it? I’m super paranoid as I would hate to deal with mystery problems down the road.

See pic. It’s around the area in blue.

I would take it away. This type of silicon has crashed many aquariums. However - I´m not sure that you will have toxic concentrations in this case - but only the uncertainty make it a good idea to take it away now. If you will have some "events of oddities" in the future - (and you will, I promise) - you had at least excluded wrong silicone. To start a new build with anxiety in the stomach - its not a good start.

What brand?

DAP 3.0 kitchen and bath with Microban, Crystal clear

Moot point now. I had him remove and reseal with aquarium safe silicone. I think I would be too paranoid about it. Put a lot of thought into the build at this point and having a setback due to something like this isn’t worth it.

He was apologetic and removed it very carefully. I expressed my concern about any little bits falling into the tank, so he made sure none did. Mostly it all came out as one big strip.

Better to be safe then sorry :)

I know this is old thread, but in case anyone googles it, I want to state.

DO NOT use instant silicone that cures in 30 min,
DO NOT use any mold , nor mildew resistant silicone.

Those both leach chemicals that kill mold, mildew, and all other marine or aquatic life slowly.

Again............ Repeat........
