Hi all,

I'm currently shopping overflow boxes and am looking at the Modular Marine one with removable weir. Can anyone comment on how valuable this feature is? I'm also looking at the Exotic Marine unit without removable weir and just wondering how much of a selling point this feature is. I'd think it would be pretty useful to easily get coralline algae and other things handled without a lot of effort.

i have a Moduar Marine with the removable internal skim box. It’s a very nice and convenient feature for when I have to give it a soak to remove debris and coralline algae build up.

Yeah, the soak. In vinegar or something so that coralline just dies and falls off with little elbow grease and scraping.

So, for people without removable weirs, how much effort is it to get those things clean while they're still in the tank? Seems like a PITA to me. The Exotic Marine unit is certainly nice, but without this feature, not so much.

I agree, would be pretty useful but not absolutely necessary. I keep a toothbrush next to mine and brush it down monthly or so.

Right on thanks for the feedback. I suppose if we really were to dig into it, it might be an issue to be removing the weir monthly. Like, how many removals are they good before problems begin you know?

I'm leaning toward that Modular Marine anyway. Thanks again for these thoughts.

What do you use to soak the weir in? Don't want to damage the wier or discolor it
