How would I know if a pincushion is starving?

I just got a pincushion urchin and have some algae at the back of my tank, also bought some brown seaweed strips to feed it when and how would I feed it?

I literally just picked up my urchin and put it on top of the seaweed lol.

Mostly I just let it eat the algae in the aquarium. Back when the tank was newer, I fed him a strip about the size of a half-dollar twice a week.

While I don’t have my urchin anymore, I fed it by lightly holding a seaweed piece on it until it grabbed it with its spines, after that the urchin took it from there. I would turn flow off as well so it didn’t blow away. Also I had a tuxedo urchin so I was extra careful when holding the food on its spines but I would advise to do the same with any type of urchin because the spines are somewhat delicate.

I have a pretty big pincushion in a 32.5 gallon urchins around 3-4 inches in diameter, would he do well in the tank?

As long as he has room to move and rock to move on he is fine. But as for feeding I would recommend it, they are meant as a clean up crew but it’s not a bad idea to feed them from time to time
