How would I quarantine a goby/shrimp pair

Was at my LFS today and saw a blue spot goby and shrimp pair on sale.

With my tank only 2 months old I reckon that I need to wait before considering them, but wondered about quarantine.

At the moment I only have a fish QT in which I’ve used copper. Obviously I can’t put the shrimp in there with the goby, and I’d imagine that they should be kept together as a pair through the quarantine.

Any thoughts on how I’d approach this?

They will be fine in different QT tanks and meet back up in the DT. My own pair are separated right now as well, but mine is due to being in a fallow period. Only issue I had is the blue spot is large and in QT it ate my firefish

The only way you can properly QT them is separately.

Parasites in the tomont stage can encyst upon the shrimp exoskeleton. If your tank is new and still fishless the shrimp can go directly into DT as long as you leave it fishless for 76 days. (Or put it in its own tank for 76 days)

Then the fish would need to be treated in a QT tank.

The problem with QT together is the shrimp won't tolerate the meds the fish will/may need.

Until I got my red Sea Nano. I QTd all inverts in a Rubbermaid tote on basement floor, with just LR, a heater and small powerhead. Now I use the nano for inverts, and eventually I will get a clown fish for it as my daughter's are gaining interest. So the nano will eventually become their tank once they are old enough to take care of it.

Thanks Scooter...I was mainly worried about the “bond” being broken between the pair, but it sounds like that hasn’t been an issue for you, good to know.

I do need to get a QT for the inverts...hadn’t thought of a Rubbermaid (sometime I over complicate things!!!) that’s a great idea.
