The pvc hanging down is where the overflow drains. It’s a 90g with a standard durso drain pipe. What compartment should the drain go to? There’s small holes where the red lines are. I think that small compartment will over flow if that’s the first section the water hits. Do I have it backwards and need to flip it?
Is the return pump in the right section or should I drain into that section?

Weird sump, I know, but I can’t upgrade it right now so it will have to do.
What do you guys think?

Looks good that way you have a size aera for you skimmer in the back. And I would put a 90° elbow on your pump in stead of the basket.

I'm thinking the front part is for a fuge seeing as the divider is blacked out and the back is for your skimmer, maybe???

Yeah that's good too. One of the best media I have for for fuge is Miracle mud

What would I use in the media trays? I only have one tray for it. I planned on putting rock rubble in that section, skimmer in the biggest part and unsure on the fuge part...more rubble and macro? Thanks for the replies so far!

Edit: would you put a sock under the drain pipe?

Could use eggcrate to make a media tray. Socks are a debatable subject. Might be good to help clear the water but then they might remove stuff you want. I am running them right now but don't always. Could get one of the sock holders to fit under the drain and just run it when you think you need it....

Curious why the elbow? I thought the basket was to prevent critters from getting in the pump?

The elbow allows low water levels when evaporation occurs. I've use it for years and have had no problems with critters and anything getting in there.

So I took your advice and put an elbow instead of the basket. My filter sock clogged last night and overflowed water onto the floor. I was about 1/2” from the return pump running dry. The elbow saved my pump. Thank you!!!

I too have the same sump, haven’t set it up yet, but I was going to in the next couple days. Can I see a pic of the elbow you were talking about so I know. This is how I was going to set it up cause I wanted a bigger refugium.

I put some flex seal tape over the hole and did a loop test run seem to work ok.
