How wouls you reccomend cycling?

Hi, im starting my flival flex 32.5, with some dead rock and live sand, how should I go about cycling this? I currently have a evo 13.5 my dad cycled for me about 4 years ago then gave to me, any advice?

Alright, I'll pull a peice or two from my 13

Get a pinch of flake food, grind it up tiny, and put it in the tank. Low flow area is good. Wait a couple weeks, do a water change and suck out the flake food. Done.

I like to add some MicroBacter7 for the first couple weeks to help as well

I then found a new LFS much closer who sold live rock.
I bought a few pieces and also added Seachem Stability and placed a lot of biomedia in the sump.
At 3 weeks I put in 3 Chromis and pretty much added fish and coral each week after. Now coming up on week 11. Had very few issues.

I like ammonium chloride + bottled bacteria. Once the cycle is done and you get a fish, I like to add dr tims waste away gels (or liquid or any other similar type of bacterial product l). This allows you to cycle without pests of live rock, and helps counter the ugly stage by providing competition for algae right from the start.

You're going to get 50 answers and most of them right. I cycled a 55 gallon with nothing but a bottle of Dr. Tims one and only and 4 baby clownfish. Many will bash someone for doing this but I was cycled in a week.

I'm not one for using live rock as it may already have critters in it. But if you're moving it over from one of your own tanks, then there shouldn't be a worry. There are so many different ways to cycle a tank these days and BRS have proven all to be effective.

i cycled my 120 in 3 days with 3 green chromis and a butt load of bacteria. I used bottles if microbacter 7, dr tims, fritz turbo start, and bio spira. You still have to add fish slowly to allow the bacteria to colonize and keep up with the bioload but my ammonia and nitrites spiked and zerod out by day 3.

There are plenty of other bacteria in a bottle you could use that are equal or better than Seachem. Australia is limited in the products we get.

It's the Santa surprise. I take the good and the bad. After all it's a mini eco system I want to replicate.
My live rock has britlestars, starfish, copepods, bristleworms, longspine urchin and crabs good and bad.
It would appear the bad crabs are being killed off while the good crabs are doing well.

Apparently the live sand bacteria is freshwater bacteria (according to BRS) lol (except for ocean direct)

Ah thats the stuff they said is not with freshwater bacteria. Apparently other sands are basically sifted, dried, and filled with some freshwater bacteria EXCEPT for that kind. I used that kind in my tank years ago (still in there)

I would recommend how I have been doing for almost 50 years and still do. The only difference from when I started in 72 was instead of damsels, I ghost feed the tank with fish food. It’s worked for me for years.

Another good option is if you have a friend with a salt tank, ask them if you can place a micron bag filled with whatever media you plan to use in your system into their sump for about 6 weeks then place it in your filter. That is if you are planning your system out in advance.
