I’ve posted a couple times but never introduced myself!

I am a 21 year old new reefer, mechanical engineering student, who somehow is finding time to support four aquariums!

Now, I say “support” as if I need to do anything for the three of my planted freshwater aquariums. Talk about a piece of cake— these things are!

I started out in this hobby when I was 5, folks got me a 10 gallon freshwater tank. My father had tanks as well, a large oscar tank in particular when I was young. Later we set up a 72g bowfront FOWLR. During high school I got out of the fishkeeping biz and focused more on fish catching. (also an avid kayak bass angler) Today I find myself enjoying both hobbies equally as the fishkeeping got quite easier now that I have a job and a mode of transportation. Keeping a saltwater tank was quite hard as a 10-13 year old when you’re working with birthday/Christmas money!

I hope my first experience owning and operating a reef tank is going to be a fun, insightful, and rewarding adventure. I appreciate the advice this forum has directly and indirectly given me through this experience and I look forward to our future!

Hello all and thank you!

Welcome! Glad you joined. WOW what an interesting backstory!

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This might help you find people local to you:

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:
