Welcome to Reef2reef Deb! Clownfish do not need anemones. Wait 6 months to a year before you add your first anemones. To start your CUC (clean up crew), try getting some snails. Then you add to your CUC as your tank needs. Best of luck and happy reefing!
Plus one bigtime. Your tank needs to be the epitome of stable for anemones to thrive.

It's really good to have you here! Greetings and Welcome to our collective obsession!!!I

Thanks so much for the recommendation!! I want my fish to be as happy as possible!

Sure thing! I suggest you make a build thread, so you can ask all the questions you'd like there, and people will answer them. If you want, you can tag me in it so I know what thread to follow.

Welcome to Reef2Reef! Glad you've found us!
On our 3rd week we are thinking of getting 2 pairs of clowns, Perculas and Darwin's.
I think you may want to hold off on two pairs and try just one pair. Clowns can get pretty territorial, especially when you have multiple bonded pairs in the same system. Just a thought. Good luck!

And yes, I agree with the above comment! Get your build thread going so we can follow along! I've included a link on how to do that in my signature. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Ah yes, good point. I missed that. Definitely stick to one pair.

Hi all! I'm Deb. I'm 65, live in Central Texas and am getting back into the hobby. I've had fresh tanks and my last tank was in the mid 90's, a 20 gallon marine.
Recently I found a FREE 55 gallon and stand in my neighborhood. My wife and I have decided to do a reef. We've been watching numerous YouTube vids.
The tank will be set up 2 weeks this Saturday. I'm doing old school filtration with a Marineland back of tank filter for 75 gallons, have an Eheim heater, thermometer. We purchased some dry Rock from our local aquarium store and used 60#s of Caribsea Fiji Pink sand, which is quite lovely!
On our 3rd week we are thinking of getting 2 pairs of clowns, Perculas and Darwin's. We do not have any anemones yet. Would this be a good time to add a couple as well for the clowns? The water is within parameters and I can see a bit of green algae starting to form on the rocks. I've been researching about lawn mower critters, which do y'all find to be the easiest for a new reef hobbyist? We DO NOT have the lights on yet.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. And I'm happy I found y'all!

Hi Deb and Welcome! I'm Lisa. Glad you found us, and a "Howdy" from your DFW neighbor! Go slow, I wouldn't add the anemones until you have your saltwater parameters stabilized with your feeding and cleaning routines. Also, they'll need light more like light for corals and not like what you may have had for fish only system in the past. It sounds like you are researching and planning, doing all the right things. Keep us posted!

Welcome to R2R!!
(Love from Mr. Limpet, my tribal blenny ❤️)

*+1 to waiting for stable parameters and your routines to be down before you get an anemone. +1 also on just one pair of clowns. I was lucky enough to raise babies to sweethearts, but they can be little devils! +1 again to making a build thread- would definitely follow along!*

*Sounds like you will do great when you start it up! All your research you are doing is great and will be very beneficial!*
