I'm not completely new to the hobby, but have been away for awhile, and am completely new to this site.

Looks really nice. I've already found lots of good information.

Currently I'm in the process of researching the new tech that is available (lots of new options since I was last active).

Looking to set up something in the 120 gallon range, mixed reef. This will be my living room show piece. (it's going to replace the TV)

I have never done corals before. The last tank I had, for about 4 years, was 90 gallon FOWLR. I was just getting to the point of investigating the addition of live coral, and circumstances came up causing me to step away.

That was about 8 years ago.

Thanks for all the advice I've already found, and look forward to further advice.

I'm open to suggestions as I am starting from scratch on this one.

:welcome: I'm in the same boat. I have been out of the hobby for about 5 years and hope to be starting things up this month. The biggest difference I've seen is people are stepping away from Metal Halide Lighting and going with LEDs. Still trying to decide which LEDs I want to use.

I'm going with as much automation as I can like auto top off and dosing. I will be trying a Reefkeeper controller for lights, water movement and water monitoring.
The other new thing I have been seeing a lot of is a bio pellet reactor. I'm not 100% certain (still in research mode) but I will most likely be running one of those too.

Good luck with the build and keep us posted.

Thanks!

Yes, I'm very intrigued by the LED's. I really like the programmable aspects of the better models. That and the control/monitor systems will make life a lot easier and consistant.

My build won't start until Feb/March of next year, but the research is well under way. I'll try and post regular updates once things get started.

Thanks again, and all advise and ideas are welcome.

Thanks, the article you suggested is actually one of the reasons I joined this group. Really good article! I've gone through it twice now and probably will review a few more times before making any purchases. I'm still in the planning phase. Thinking has changed a lot since my last tank so I'm trying to catch up.
