So my bc29 water temp just hit 84 :(. My heater is set for 71 and i keep dropping it but its slowly going up. What can i do about this??

Could it be from my compact flourcents??

make sure that the heater is actually off and not malfunctioning. what is the house temp? Then check return pump and lights.

Fans are your friend. You can also float frozen water bottles, those little individual bottles the size used for drinking water.
It's most likely the lighting, you may have to rig up some fans, lower the ambient room temperature, open the lid if possible as well.

You are experiencing the same problem all BC owners have when they have the unit with the hood and the Compact lights. Lots and lots of heat. I own one myself bought it 4 mths ago and yup heat issues. So here is the quick fix for ya that wont cost an arm and a leg for a chiller. First remove the front and back lid from the canopy. Yes I know you want that compete contained look you paid for. Unless you spring for a chiller or upgrade leds this is what you have to do. Once you have the lids removed place a fan pointing at an angle blowing into the rear compartment. With the front opened you will increase the evaporative cooling effect cooling down your tank. Just remember you will need to add water a lot more often due to evaporation. I did this for a quick fix and kept my temps down to 80 degrees. I also run my air conditioner in my house as well. The final fix will be to replace the compacts with leds. I gutted my hood and installed the Current Orbit Marine Led. It works great and my temp stays at 79 degrees with both lids on the canopy and closed. My tank at the moment is only a fowler and I am not sure those lights are going to be strong enough for corals. Rapid leds makes a retrofit kit for your tank that is nice. Unless your ok with ditching the hood all together then your options are greatly improved.
