That looks like a cucumber. How big is it? Can you get a brighter picture? Where did it come from?

I'm not. What is that?

Ya that sounds like a sand sifting cucumber. Better get it some sand!
So its got sand... I just pulled it out cuz it looks gnarly and mean ill put him back if hes chill but yeah weird

Some cucumbers can release toxins and nuke your tank. I believe yours looks similar to a tiger tail which is relatively safe imo but I'm no expert. Better pics would be nice. Also one end of your cuc looks odd so I wanted a closer look at that.

Is it active and eating the sand?

Yes and yes. I just pulled him out of the water so that might have shocked him. Hes back in the tank now. Im moving specimens around and doing maintenance atm

That is a tiger tail cucumber. I have several. It started as one and they split when they are happy and well fed. Definitely sand eaters. Dirty sand goes in the front, clean pearl white sand comes out the back. They can get up to 12” or so when they stretch out. Definitely reef safe, but if it get sucked into a power head, it will release toxins that will nuke your tank. Make sure you have anemone guards on your power heads and you’ll be fine. They are a great sand cleaners...

Ride on. This system has been up and running for about 2 months. It was an emergency move as the owners of the store sold it to their son and expanded the hydroponic side of the store. I started working here around 2 years ago as a pond maintenance dude. Being the company started as a lfs having fresh, saltwater and pond maintenance on one side of the store and indoor gardening on the other. Soon after i got into fresh water keeping, then on to saltwater... Ive been reefing only for about a year, but dove in pretty hard. I now have 5 reef systems up and going and 2 freshwater systems. The fish side shut down with no one to take the inhabitants of a 35 year old reef display so i stepped up to the plate, built a 200 gallon reef system out of all recycled tanks and material. I had only 2 weeks to get a plan together or else all the marine life would have perished. In one night I moved all the water and i habitants to the new system amd after the system at the store suffered neglect of about 4 months losing alot of live stock. However since the move. Corals I thought were just totAlly dead have bounced back including some beautiful varieties of montipora and acros. Im a happy reef dad and will keep on truck in. I appreciate being apart of the community and all the feedback. Much love from Eugene/ Springfield Oregon.... - kb-
