I've have had a humu for about 5 months now. About 2 weeks ago it seems like almost overnight his personality changed. He was one of my most aggressive feeders now he's turned very shy. I see no exterior signs of disease. Ideas ?

hmm..added any new tankmates or tempertaure swings??? someone will come along with better knowledge me! goodluck :)

Can you post a picture or video of his behavior? A really close, clear picture? Also, did he or all of his tank mates get QT'd?

Poop. He died last night. Was my strongest fish up until three weeks ago. Seems like almost overnight he stopped grabbing gravel in his mouth and spitting it. Kinda hard to imagine what it might be. Also kinda hard to treat just him as the tank is 5'x5'x5' with a mountain of rock in the middle. Any ideas for the future? I do not quarantine my fish as the store they come from is very top notch. I've had this guy since July and, up until just recently he's been great

The do not quarantine thing is scary. Because of the sheer numbers of fish moving through any LFS you can be sure almost every fish you get was exposed to parasites and has some.

Cryptic behavior is a common symptom of velvet and other ailments.

What else remains?

Any swimming in to powerheads? Flashing, Scratching, hiding from light, twitching, noticeable blotches of lost color or discoloration?

+1 Also look for heavy breathing, lack of appetite, lethargy
