They won't likely eat any corals, just probably small inverts, fish and they also poop a lot, so they can kill corals that way too.

They're awesome to keep, one of my favorites. They do like to rearrange the substrate and eat like pigs. Never kept one with coral, but yeah they'll likely snack on any inverts. Never seen mine show any aggression towards other fish, although he did like spitting the gravel out over the area the eel would stick his head out and then swim down to watch it bounce of his head.

They're invert eaters not really fish eaters. That said you never can be 100% sure but if you start with a smaller humu it would be a safer bet, and more enjoyable that way too IMO. I had chromis in with mine and he didn't really pay attention to it, never was aggressive towards it, and the chromis would follow him around usually. The only one I'd be concerned at all about at all would be the firefish, but that's only with a larger aggressive one dropped into a new tank. Keep him well fed with shrimp, clams, scallops, etc and I don't think it'll ever be a problem. I use to go to Trader Joe's grocery store and they had a seafood mix of scallops, calamari (squid) and shrimp for like $8 that's uncooked and had no preservatives and he loved it. Can grab clams on the half shell and other stuff from LFS usually for a treat. Pretty sure LRS has a blend made with larger chunks in it too these days.

The ones I saw are quite small, easily under 2". I personally like getting smaller fish and watching them grow, so that seems like a good plan. I do not mind buying invert food.
As an aside, my wife has minimal interest in the tank (other than to tell me when it's starting to smell like low tide!). However, we went to Hawaii 10 years ago and we saw many Humu's. She fell in love with them and even bought some Humu-inspired art that we still have in the house. This could be what turns her into a fan of the tank!
