Hey guys as the title of this thread states hurricane irma is going to hit us saturday morning over here in South Florida any tips to be able to maintain things going in case of a power outage?
also i would like for you guys to send some prayers to us here in South Florida thank you and god bless

Plan for the worst, hope for the best. Energy should be focused on prep.

Stop feeding your livestock now. That will help reduce ammonia risk. Don't feed again until after its over and power returns.

Keep that DT flowing. Plan for loosing power as it will happen. If you planned with a generator, great-make sure you have 3 days fuel. If no generator, stir your DT manually every hour. Prayer won't keep your fish alive, oxygenated water will.

I'm also in Fl. Good luck, we are all going to need it. Mother Nature rules all.

Agree prayer won't do anything i bought a battery operated air pump would that be enough? Good luck man and be safe

Yeah, an air pump will definitely help. Battery life/hours will be your next risk. Supplies are already mostly out in Tampa for stuff like that. I'm sure where you are it is even worse. A car ac power inverter and extension cord are good to have on hand.

Im in northern Florida now but have two family members down with you taking the brunt of it tomorrow. Prayers already sent to everyone down there.

I have a small pump running a bubbler now and will switch that to battery as soon as the power goes out. Hopefully we're not looking at a 3 weeks power outage event like Wilma was a while back. I lost a tank back then too - because there's really no way to plan for three weeks. If you don't have a generator, way back then I was able to eventually find one up in Jupiter two weeks after the storm, it just took some phone calls and driving around to make that happen.
