Just wondering anyone's opinion on what size or specs would be ideal on a generator during a power outage. Currently I have a 125 gallon, jacod DC return pump( probably pushing around 2400 gph), 2 maxspect gyre power heads, heater, couple 32" led lights, skimmer..Plus 20+ fish and inverts and lots of frags.. I did recently purchase an icecap back up battery but I only have my return pump and powerheads on that, I think max battery life is around 24 hours?

I'm not sure if I would want around 3000 watts or more towards 5000? Overkill?

Any input is greatly appreciated

On a side note, I don't have a chiller so regardless if I lose power for an extended period of time....temperature may be the nail in the coffin..

If it's just for tank you could get away with a 2000w generator. I bought a 8000w and it will run tank, tv, cable, fridge, lamps, and a few other things.

Nice. I'm assuming I can run an extension cord to a couple 6pack strips? Thanks.

Freeze bottles of water of time. Can use them to cool the water if the temperature rises.

A clip-on fan pointed at an angle to the surface of my tank reduces the water temp nearly two degrees. You would need your ATO running with plenty of RODI.
