Hello all,

I currently have a 90g mixed reef with about 10 fish in the tank. I work for the fire department so i will be unable to be home and providing support for my tank. However I will be having my family watch over the tank and will be supplying the tank with battery back up and then a generator when that runs out.

My questions is should i only be running my return pump and one circulation pump in the tank.

What do you guys think is most vital, it would be ideal to run the whole tank but obviously i can't use all the generators power for the tank and leave my family without any use of the generator

Thanks all.

Sounds like you are on track I would think that as long as you keep your return going and temp of tank water right you should be fine. Good luck to you and your family I hope the storm isn't as bad as they predict by the time it hits Florida.

My tank is set up to just have the battery back up run my MP10 just to move my water. I’d say for Long Jevity is go with just running your side mounted circulation pumps they require a lot less electricity

Keep your tanks oxygenated at the very least. Generator, battery back up, power inverters, battery bubblers....... corals can go without light for 3-4 days and still be okay.

Hang in there everyone!

Get some hydrogen peroxide... if all else fails you can take a bucket of water out, dose with h2o2 and put back in every 15 mins or so, the spare oxygen atom will release and you've got pure h2o and oxygen in the tank... that and stirring the tank every 30 mins or so will keep everything alive if you've lost all power and backups.

Best to be prepared... good luck to everyone affected... watching from the other side of the pond so feeling very lucky we don't see storms even close to this magnitude.

Hoping my anemones are ok with the natural sunlight they get... and that the window they are by doesn't break! Other than that, I think I've prepared their tanks. Several battery operated air pumps, tons of D batteries, water changes - will do one again closer to the storm hitting, we have 5 20-gallon food safe brute tubs and 5 5-gallon buckets for water. Plus the water we keep on hand normally to drink. Nitrate/ammonia absorbing media bag. Need to start freezing water in case they get hot.

Heres my batter back up bank i will be attempting to run the whole tank just as normal minus my T5 refugium light switching it for LED spotlight bulbs
Once power on this runs out i came across a second generator that should run the tank for the remainder of time (HOPEFULLY)
