We may or may not evacuate our area (Tampa Bay). Working on prepping for possibly staying here vs leaving dodge. I think we'll know by Thursday what we're doing. Winds should start hitting here Friday.

Fortunately I don't have my super big tank yet! I only have a 29 gallon tank right now.

We have a generator and fuel, but you never know if it's enough to run for the entire time your power will be out. I've ordered two battery powered air pumps and extra D batteries to arrive tomorrow - gotta love Amazon! I have dry food in case their frozen food goes bad.

I was thinking that maybe I should do a big water change now to make sure the water chemistry is at it's best before this thing hits or before I pack them up in 5 gallon buckets to make the trip out of here.

Anyone here been through this or have any suggestions on how to best keep my little ones alive?

Good luck to you. I'm in Broward. I have a generator but I usually turn it off at night because it's so loud. I also have a couple inverters I can hook up to my car in case of emergency. I never evacuate. I'm going down with the ship...lol

I have dealt with several power outages but none lasting more than a day or two. Water circulation and keeping the temp. in range are obviously your first priorities. If the power is out long enough coral not being able to photosynthesize is the next problem. I would cut back on feeding a bit if the filtration goes down/ you transport the livestock in buckets to help prevent ammonia spikes from occurring. Doing a water change in anticipation of the storm is a great idea.

Best of luck!!!

I'm in citrus county (closer to ocala than tampa) and we are doing the same.

I don't have a generator and not in a flood prone Zone as we're in a little higher elevation then Tampa, but if I need one and my husband happens to be home with his semi there is one on it. We just have to plug a hundred foot cord into it :) otherwise I have a power inverter that I could plug into my car battery. And I also ordered those air bubblers that turn on when the power goes off plus I have several other battery-operated ones. I have four tanks in my house; 180g, 45g, 29g and 20Lg.

I am MOST concerned about our south Florida reefer friends being hit with a strong Cat 4 and some in the Virgin Islands that are being hit right now with a Cat5 :( We're praying for you.....

Same here last night I ordered some battery powered pumps from amazon since then they've gone up $3. I really hope Irma doesn't hit Naples if not I'm screwed.

I was going to go to Pensacola, but I-10 is a cluster F***. I'm not going to join the thousands that failed to plan and have to abandon their cars. I bought six cases of beer, rum, and like 15 bottles of wine for me and my neighbors. I'm the only one with a generator for my section of the neighborhood. I'm about to freeze 240 handmade steak tomales.

You sir, know how to party!

Amazon came through (a day late) on some nice battery powered air pumps - after I ran out to get some cheap ones from the store. I should have had these years ago!
My pumps are not going to make it in time but my batteries will come today so I'm going to have to use my old battery operated ones. However good news is my husband made it home and he does have the generator on his semi. That generator is going to run my return for the 180 every other hour. The power inverter is going to be attached to my car and will run the other two tanks powerheads. The phyto/pod/macro tank will have to be a loss if a bubbler alone won't do the trick.

From the latest models, the eye of the storm as it heads North is going to pass right over my County. We're not expecting a ton of rain (5"-8") by the time it gets here but winds upwards to 125 miles an hour since we will be close to the eye. But you know as I do how things change....

Best of luck to everyone this weekend! Hopefully this won't be as bad as they're portraying it to be.

I'm coming to your house!

If anyone is in the I-75 Highway 44 Wildwood area and stuck there you're welcome to come to Inverness and hang out at my house. Take Highway 44 to Inverness until you reach the fountain and cross over at the light. Turn left on Apopka, then right on Penrose. 2nd house on the right. Just let me know you're coming.

I'm in Broward too. Everyone says that everyone experiences a crash at some point. I hope this hurricane, something out of my control like losing power, is not the reason for my first. It would be really heartbreaking for sure. Good luck everyone else affected down here.

I will be praying for you and your family, Jackie. It sounds like you are well prepared without the pumps making it in time. Macros and pods are tough and I am sure it should do fine with just the battery backup pump. Do you have blocks of ice frozen to keep the seahorse tank cool?

Thank you Dawn. Yes I froze bunches of water bottles and Ziploc baggies ;)
