Hey all,

It’s been a while since I’ve posted mostly because if been busy with work and school. Unfortunately my parents house lost power during Hurricane Irma for about 6 days and the temperature in my tank went from 76F to 83F. I was able to keep the tank circulating on batteries and generators but I couldn’t keep it cool, even with two fans. I wound up losing quite a bit of coral to the stress of the storm. My question is, a month later with everything having returned to normal, why am I still losing colonies? Can the effects of the storm still be showing and if so how do I relieve this stress to save what I have left?

Any suggestions or ideas as to why this is still happening would be really appreciated!

As we all know, corals take time to grow and the effects of the temperature change through every thing out of whack. The corals are still recovering for the stress. I would suggest using Brightwells vitamarn M and C with your frozen to help the corals heal and deal with the stress.

So you think they are still stressed after thing long? I’ve had acros for many years now but this is my first hurricane with them so this experience is all new to me.

I also use fuel and reef roids for my corals. I think the fuel has vitamins in it but I’m not sure if they are the same as the brightwells.

I think they are still stressed, If you have a vitamin C table at the house and depending on the size of the table, use that for now. 250 milligrams per 50 gallons works wonder for coral health and fish.

Hmm I’ll have to look around. I’ve never thought to use vitamin C for my corals. I can look into it. It’s quite depressing to see all of these colonies disappearing.
