So up to this point the tank is looking great, no problems at all really and getting good growth from the radions. But after a few discussions with some ppl and my own thoughts I decided to swap out the radions and go back to metal halides. It was a tough decision but I was very curious to see if there would be any difference from the switch. I had no complaints with the LEDs other than they color morphed my acans and some chalices. So I finally decided on the following setup for the halides. 3x Coralvue LumenBright reflectors, 3x Galaxy select a watt ballasts, 3x 250w 20k radiums. I also wanted to add t5s to the tank as well but I didn't add them on until very recently, like 2 weeks ago recently lol. But I noticed an immediate change in the tank from the switch in lighting. my rainbow acans changed from the yellow/green to the rainbow colors they are supposed to be within a matter of 3 hours, I kid you not. I was sold on the switch and it was literally a week into the switch. The LEDs were boxed up and put away!
Another change I made during this time was that I was struggling with my all my SPS did nothing but encrust, never any vertical growth. I couldn't put my finger on it so I thought about what change could I make that might change this? First thing in my head was flow, I had my 2 mp40s on 100% short pulse anti sync along with a mag24 return pump. I turned the mp40s down to 40% and let them be for a couple weeks. And like magic SPS that I thought would never do anything started giving me vertical growth. I have been increasing flow little by little until i see the growth stop, right now the mp40s are on 60% short pulse anti sync. Things are still on the up and up, so I guess thats a good thing haha.

Here is a cell phone pic my wife took shortly after I mounted the lights. My daughter and I enjoy the tank! Please pay no mind to the crappy mount job, I did it quick thinking it could possibly be temporary, but a new canopy is in the making...

Hybridazn's Lime in the Sky. Orignally bought it thinking it was the Tyree piece, but then later found out it came from Oculus, and we all know how great they were at giving mari pieces that look similar already established named pieces. But its still nice
My ORA Red Planet that I have had since 2007, all it did while in the tank was encrust with ZERO vertical growth. This was one piece that responded well to the flow change

Well, you have taught me something already. I have a couple of sps frags growing in my tank, both are in the high flow area of my tank, one has decent vertical growth, the other just a little bit. When it comes to encrusting on both of these corals though, they should be full blown colonies for the amount of encrusting they have. Never dawned on me that the flow they were getting might be part of the problem. I turned down both MP40s by 4 dots, they were at one dot from being wide open, plus I have a Gyre in the tank also at 40%, the tank is a 150g at 48x30x25 Anyway, I turned down both MP40s after reading this, and will see what happens

Awesome! Give it a few weeks, if that was the problem you should see results soon
