HybridAZN's 180 gallon build

I'm no professional, but I think something is missing....

So tonight I was busy lol. I removed the sump, all pumps, reactors and so on and they are enjoying a nice vinegar bath. I decided to give the inside of the stand a few coats of white paint. I will most likely give it at least 2 more, then the new sump will be going in.

I put my probes and heater in the display to keep it heated while I am doing this. I'm hoping to have the new sump in and running by monday.

Obviously more pics to follow :)

Finished up the last 2 coats of paint tonight and I also got in the pond liner base to go under the sump

Oh yea, I also got the sump under the stand finally lol

Next up is some plumbing!

This update should have been done a few days ago when it happened, but I held off because I didn't want to talk about it or rehash it lol, but now it's time. As you all know I've had problems in the recent past with a dosing pump failing and dumping a gallon of alk solution twice, the first the tank was fine but the second claimed victims. I switched to a calcium reactor but I decided to take it offline until I get the new sump up and running. I had an extra dosing pump laying around for spare parts and I pieced together a working pump, I mixed the 2 part and put it online. It worked flawlessly as it should for 3 weeks. Then on Thursday I had to refill the 2 part and then I went to bed. My wife wakes me up in the morning and tells me that the tank looks like milk, my eyes open wife from a sound sleep and I say, "son of a..." I hope out of bed and run downstairs to see that my dosing pump once again dumped the entire gallon of alk solution into the tank, uuuuugh.

I check my apex to see what my ph was and it peaked at 8.74 at 5am. I just shake my head in disbelief and go back to bed. My wife asks me "well aren't you going to do anything?" I tell her not right now and just lay back down.

A few hours later the tank finally clears and literally everything in the tank is white except the corals surprisingly. Even today they all appear fine except my RR Pink Floyd, it rtn'd a good bit and I'm hoping it pulls thru but it's not looking good :(

If anyone is curious to watch my video review of my Bubble Magus dosing pump here it is.

If you can't tell by the video, I'm done with dosing pumps for a while lol.

Thanks for looking!

Your video has me in stitches bro!

BTW, I had the exact same doser fail me, in the exact same way, no bueno!

Hahaha so far everyone I've shown has cracked up laughing! So it might be a "hit" hahaha

Man... I'm so sorry man. You definitely make me question buying a BM T01 lol.. I think I'll grab the vertex now..

It's worked great for the first couple years and then recently just completely crapped out. It's a shame because this pump is super easy to program. If I were to get another doser it will def be the GHL standalone.

Excellent review video, thanks for sharing. [emoji106] sucks that it had to come to that.

Thanks bud! Yea it does suck but what can you do, I can't wait to get this new sump setup and done!

Reminds me of the scene in office space when they smash the copy machine. Haha

Hahaha now I need to go back and edit that in!

Plumbing has started! Drains almost done. I have to figure out how to run the emergency pipe now since I changed the location of how the pipes run from the old sump. I might have it just dump into the next section of the sump, not sure yet though.

Dang man! That sucks!! But your video had me rofl! I think your "review" is certainly clear and concise.

Hahaha, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I felt that it was a honest, heart felt review lol!

Yaaaay update!

Finished the return plumbing tonight, it's kind of scary that I don't even leak test my plumbing anymore lol. I just glue it and go anymore

Excuse the wires, I do have a plan for all those. I will be redoing all my electrical next after I finish my emergency drain, I ran out of piping for it, whoops. I'll finish that tomorrow, but I'm tearing out my old electrical cabinet that sits next to my tank and will be doing something a little cleaner. As for the wires in the sump I'll be organizing them like this:

20160427_022140.jpg

Zip ties and cable mounts will hide the wires pretty nicely by the rim. Now I'm sure I'll be cursing these things when it comes time to do maintenance on whatever but I just have to remember that they keep it neat looking lol. I only got the pump section done so far, I'll focus on the rest of the sump a little later.

I finished that up and moved on to getting the sump wet, yaaaaay! Finally!

So 45 gallons of saltwater later I have this

20160427_022108.jpg

Water! I got all my probes and heater out of the display and it's running smoothly. I put a extra Tunze 6045 in the drain section to keep detritus from settling and keeping it suspended to get picked up by the filter socks. After running for a while I realized something, I noticed water running down the sides of the filter sock holder. I forgot to silicone the edges! D'oh!
Oh well, I'll fix that on the next water change, it'll be ok for now.

That's it for now! Thanks for looking!

Got the CaRX online last night, I also recalibrated the ph probe for it. Put the tunze ato online as well. Since the water level in the ato container is higher (20g XT) I had to put a check valve in the line so it wouldn't gravity siphon into the sump.

I really hate wires. I wish I could make everything wireless lol, but the wire cleanup is getting better. Next up tonight is getting my carbon reactor online and possibly my uv as well.

I had a TLF reactor that I was going to use as a secondary reactor for my CaRX temporarily but it started to leak from the lid so I ditched it. It was pretty old and I didn't want to invest too much time on it. I'll be ordering a new Geo's reactor soon enough haha.

Not too much done tonight, kinda tired today after physical therapy. I did manage to plumb the Geo's Reef media reactor in (carbon) and I think it came out pretty nice. All I need is to cut a piece of piping to go down to have it exit in between the baffles.

That's it for tonight! Thanks for looking!

I'm having some issues programming my apex for my CaRX and I am hoping you guys and gals can help me out. I want to program my regulators solenoid to turn on and off at certain ph points, nothing out of the ordinary there. Well when I go to program the apex using the probe name pH2 it is not allowing me to do so, but it will let me program using the other 2 ph probe names that are already in the apex. The ph2 probe is on fusion and is logging and reading fine. The probe name even shows up in the probe name list when I go to the drop down list. I am baffled as to why its doing this.

Issue resolved, thanks buddy!

I changed the probe name from pH2 to pHx2 and now it programs without a hitch, yaaaay!
