So after much haggling from friends, I have finally decided to make a build thread. My goal for this system when I first set it up in 2011 was for it to be simple but effective in all aspects. As we all know, when we do something sometime later down the road we look at what we have done and realize that it can be better in some way, shape or form. That is where I am everyday with this system. I will use this thread to update with pics of what I add, upgrade or improve on my system and I will always be open to suggestions from the R2R community on how to improve as well.
I'm sure some are curious as to my background, so here it is. I've always had fishtanks growing up as a kid, the first real tank I had was when I was 12 years old. A 20 gallon freshwater that I got to house a goldfish I won at a local fair. I kept that fish alive for years so my brother and I set up quite a few tanks, mostly piranha. I set up my first saltwater tank in 2002, a 29 gallon which crashed and burned very quickly. I took a break from it until 2006 when I set up a 75 gallon tank when I finally moved out of my parents when I got married. I kept that tank going successfully until I set up the 180. I have had some major set backs with saltwater tanks. Mostly due to major losses because of lack of a proper quarantine procedure. I have had almost complete livestock losses because of ich, but because of this I have become very committed to quarantining EVERYTHING that enters my system.
Now like I stated, I started this build in July 2011, so there will be a rush of pics in the first few posts from me. I looked thru all the pics I have taken to this point and realized I didn't do a good job of taking pics of the build along the way. So that is something I will strive to improve from here on out.

180 gallon (6'x2'x2') Glass display tank with custom coast to coast overflow with bean animal overflow
40 gallon breeder custom "sump" (It is a standard 40b that I divided into 2 sections, where my drains dump into-2 baffles-then return section. More info on this later)

Thats the equipment list currently on the tank. Over the years I have gone from MH, to LED and back to MH. I will have pics of the switch so I will go into greater detail with the pics as I post them. This tank has been a strong passion for me with a lot of people that helped me along the way, and I will drop names as I go along haha.
