Hi All! I’m mostly looking for some info here… I got a couple of really pretty Hydnophora frags on a great Black Friday deal and they seem very happy in my tank thus far. I had done some research, but admittedly probably not enough.
I have a mostly LPS tank (almost a year old) and my nutrients are on the higher side but very stable - 25ish NO3 and .27-.3 PO4.
My questions are these - I’ve seen a lot of conflicting info. Are Hydnophora LPS or SPS? Do they like high or low light? I know they like quite a bit of flow.
I’ve seen different sites call them both LPS and SPS and most websites have said they like high light (250-300 PAR). A friend who owns a few types says they like lower light around 75 PAR and any higher makes them unhappy.
I have my frags on a rack right now, about midway up in my tank, off to the side, as I know they’re aggressive but I’d like to mount them somewhere. One small piece of the branching one even broke off in shipping and I glued it to another plug and both have healed amazingly fast. They look very fluffy and are getting a pretty good amount of flow.
If you own any Hydnophora frags/colonies, what’s been your experience?
Edit: please ignore the angry torch and dirty glass… I have two tanks next to each other and I let this side get a little dirtier before cleaning so the fish don’t just stare at each other all day! Lol
