Hydor Koralia pumps lost their luster

I've got a total of 6 Koralias in my 2 tanks + 1 for mixing saltwater....all seem to have lost a considerable amount of power in the last few months.

I have recently (and regularly) taken them out, take them apart, and clean thoroughly. Can't seem to solve this one, unless maybe I need new impellers??

Anyone else have this happen?

How do you know there is a lack of flow, how have you measured it? I am a pump expert, of most kinds, you are making a statement but back it up with some stats! I run 6 of them in my tank 4 1's and 2 2's.

Wow - how do you become a "pump expert"? I would love to have that certification as well. How do they measure your expertise when you get certified as a "pump expert"? Back up your certification with some stats!

If you were a "pump expert" you'd know by now that K's are junk compared to many other powerheads out there. If you get year out of them consider yourself lucky. I have a box of about 6 in the junk closet.....

Really? I've had the same Koralias for 2-4 years.. never had a problem. Are you sure you aren't chewing on them or something?

I think what happened to a few of them is they got damaged when the maximods blew them out of the water. The others got confused with the ever changing flow of the vortechs and started running in reverse. A few more just quit when I hired a Tunze.

I've noticed a decrease in performance over time with my koralias as well.

Send an e-mail to hydor and ask if there is a fix for it.

I have the new Evolutions and they were running backwards.
I sent and e-mail and the responded with a temorary fix of cleaning the bushing and reassembling them.
Theu then sent me the new vesion of the bushing that won't slip and the fixed the problem.

They are great to work with.

What makes you a pump pro though? I have had hundreds of pumps and have been working working with hydraulic and pneudralic pumps for about 8 years and do not consider myself an expert. Over time pumps will decrease in flow because of the wear and tear on the motor. If the pump has been turned off and on, ie being on a wave controller, it will happen faster. Even vortechs and tunzes have this effect. It is your ball bearings wearing down or in this case build up, slowing them down. It is a little more complicated but this is the simple version of explaining it.

There are many in this forum that are very good at specific areas of the hobby.
RBursek may be one of the people. Who are any of you to judge?
The posed question made sense..... What stats are available to show that the pump is failing or at least not producing up to PAR?
RBursek, may have had the perfect answer, but with all the bashing going on in here, I wouldn't be suprised to not see that information shared.

Please stop judging people that you don't even know.
