I bought a 40 gallon Innovative Marine Nuvo ext 40 and bought and for lighting a Hydra 26 with mount. My question is how far from the bottom should the light be?

I kept mine around 12 inches above the water line for a 50 gal.

I'll be mainly keeping lps. Going to be looking for settings

The closer to the water the higher par but you could burn your corals. Not from high par but from an led “hot” spot. I have 2 52 HD’s 16” above my 50 gallon cube delivering 650-400 par for my acros. If you’re just going to do lps then I would mount it 12”. I have a 26 hd on my 29 gallon biocube frag tank as well. Let me know if you need pat readings.

Perfect that's great info, what Re your settings for morning eve and night? And pat reading ms would be super cool

Never seen anyone run the uv so high...any negative effects?

Nope. The hydra uv isn’t true ultraviolet btw. There is way more true uv in metal halides, t5’s etc. I don’t even think it adds much par. I’ll check here in a bit. It’s basically the ab+ spectrum with a little less white, more red, green and blue to max them out.

So my par with my normal UV setting at the highest point was 550 and 490 with the UV setting at 0. No negative effects unless you consider crazy colors and fast growth a negative
