I am afraid Im going to loose some corals if I don't get this resolved quick. I have a Rea Sea 750 XXL that came with 4 of the AI Hydra 26 lights. Yesterday afternoon all 4 lights would just shut down after 3-4 minutes. The Parent light is showing a Green light ( normal) the 3 child lights are Blue ( normal). If I kill the power they turn on and then 3-4 minutes later they all 4 shut off. I have to turn off the power again to get them back on just to have them shut down again. I have tried different AIP files with the same results. The time is correct on App and web portal for the lights. Lunar is off and accumulation is off. I see no reason for them to all 4 just shut down like the scedule is at zero lighting. AI support doesn't open till Monday !

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,

Your corals will be fine for 2 or 3 days without light. Are these the Hydra 26 HD's or regulars? Can you share your schedule with us, maybe some screen shots? We'll do all we can to help you get everything back up and running :) #reefsquad @ReefSquad

Hello, I have 3 Hydra 26’s and I get this problem every so often. It could be a number of things, but I would start with seeing if this could be due to your Hydras loosing connectivity to your router. Unplug and replug in your router. See if that helps. If it resolves your problem, I’m happy to help explain how to reduce this challenge (to the extent that I have!).

How far away is your WiFi router from your lights? Keep in mind, your Hydras have a very weak WiFi signal coming from them.

These are the HD and just under a year old. Attached is the scedule its running now and the lights are off again.

Oh no! That would sound like a short if it were just happening in one unit. Have you tried changing which light is the parent and see if that helps?

This was my next step. Do a complete reset if needed.. :(

The router is 5 feet from the tank. There should be no issues with getting a signal.

Is there any particular time during this schedule that the lights do it? or just any time randomly?

It does this always. It started yesterday afternoon. The only way to get them back on is to power off and turn back on power. Then they all come on and light up for about 2 mins and them back to dark. Turn off power and repeat.

When the lights shut off, are they physically hot? like hotter than normal running?

No, first thing I check. The fans do not even come on before shutting down. I even cleaned the fans just to make sure. But its doing this with all 4 lights, I can't imagine all 4 getting hot at the exact same time.

David, a few additional questions (yes these will seem strange, but humor me):
1.) are all 4 of your Hydra lights powered on (Like you don’t have one sitting in a corner not being used)?
2.) Can you confirm that you’re not using a controller like the Apex linked to them?
3.) Any luck restarting the router?

Yes, All four are powered by a power strip and mounted above the tank as they have been for a year. I flip the one switch to power off the lights and back on and all 4 go off and power back up with the status LEDs showing powered on. They all come on after a few seconds and then 1-2 mins later they shut down. Status lights still showing ok. It's like I have the schedule set with zero power.

2.) Can you confirm that you’re not using a controller like the Apex linked to them?

I have an APEX and I have turned off the APEX just to test this and just ran power to the lights. The AI portal is set to AUTO and using the portal schedule not an APEX schedule. I had the APEX controlling em 6-7 months ago but did not like the interface so went back to self scheduling via the AI interface.

3.) Any luck restarting the router?

Restarted the router 3 times. Same issue. Im on the same network as the lights using as well as the apex does. Internet connectivity is stable and strong.

Try to plug them in to a different source and verify ground also.
If on a power strip, try a different strip. Lastly, are they connected to an Apex unit?? ( IF SO, CAN BE A TEMP SETTING THATS SHUTTING THEM DOWN)

I have moved them to a direct power source away from the apex completely and even turned off the apex. They use to be plugged into the apex power box and yes they had a temp set to shut off the lights power at 82 degs, but they are not even connected to the apex right now. When this started last night I removed it from the apex EB8 power and plugged them directly to the wall. No effect.

Did you switch parent and child around yet?

I can't imagine is a power source issue as the status lights show normal. They are getting power. They just turn themselves off. Im about to do a complete reset and I hate doing it, the process is a pain to get back setup again.

I recently had the same issue on my 350. Only diff was I don’t have parent/child relationship on lights because I bought second hand and have not managed to get AI to reset (old owners still have serial numbers on their profile I guess).

Anywho...you could see what affect disowning your children would have (the lights I mean but use your best judgement ;-). This will tell you if the prob is isolated - similar to changing parent status I guess.

Finally, what seems to have worked for my 1 problem light is disconnecting the power directly to light and reconnecting. I mean the end of the ac adaptor that connect to the light itself. Mine had worked loose twice and each time was the culprit - had power on and green indicator by light never started per schedule.

Hope this helps!

Complete reset and plug each one individually to assure its not one interfering with other three.
