Long story short I’m looking into upgrading to a waterbox 130.4 or aqua reef 400 and am looking at the following lights for a mixed reef with a focus on sps higher up in the tank.

2x hydra 64’s
2x Orphek Atlantik v4 g2 plus two of their light bars if needed down the line probably the blue plus.

if anyone has experience with ether or both lights please share your experiences and thoughts on them

I have not used the new 64s but I have used the older models and have also used orpheks. Personally I feel the orpheks are in a league of their own for LEDs at the moment when it comes to spectrum and coverage to prevent shading. They hydras are nice too though and neither option is bad.

I've heard about the orphecks having bad QC did you experience this?

If you are a technical/DIY type of person you will be able to work with the Orphek. The AIs are more user friendly.

I believe the Orphek is a better light due to the spread and they only drive their LEDs at ~60% (Better efficiency/LEDs run cooler) VS 100% of competitors but they suffer from a glitchy app and customer service that asks you to do soldering/etc.

That’s just insane from a manufacturer.
no tv or phone or any other electronic company would EVRER try to make their customers solder parts because of issues from the manufacturer.
Just wow...

I love my orphek atlantik v4

I ordered mine about two- three years ago and haven’t had any problems.. then one day I realized one of my channels wasn’t as bright as it was (over two years old at this point)

i sent james@orphek an email at 12:30 am and he was helping me trouble shoot at 12:34... ovbiously this isn’t always the case but they are great. Apparently one of my led connections were messed up and as I was out of warranty I was out of luck.. except orphek didn’t leave me to drown!! They told me if I bought the light board I would get a whole out of goodies lol.

I got the new light board
78 new 5w (I think?) diodes (different than the ones sold with my orphek (updated model)
4 new fans (mine were fine)
A camera kit
And some other light equipment piece I can’t think of...
(I also took this opportunity to upgrade my WiFi card as well we the gateway although mine worked fine )
Anyways long story short I will probably be with orphek for life!! Extremely happy and can’t wait to start dosing / taking care of my tank to actually see real results!

Edit: I had the opportunity to start soldering and whatnot however as I have never done that I opted for the replacement board. Yes it was an expense but after the lights and the performance I couldn’t complain as it was not much

I have only heard of that happening under warranty in one instance so take it with a grain of salt.

I have not had any issues at all and wouldn't trade it in for anything else on the market right now.

Go with the hydra 64hd I’ve had so much trouble with the orpheks I’ve given up and replaced them.

Orphek owner here and no disappointment here. The colors and schedules are amazing as is coral growth and light penetration

neither

Love my orphek!

i had two
Orpheks for 8 years no problems at all.

Ive got the 64 and the AV4g2. I also have ATILed hybrid all in one room and all I can say is Orphek is ahead on this one with the LED's. Their spread and casting of the light is like no other LED's...so much better. I do like the 64 and it is more user friendly but once its plug and play then their is no more toying so the user side don't matter much. I'd say go with Orphek for sure!
