Hey guys, no matter what coral or where I place it, every red or orange coral that goes into my tank shifts to pink or this washed out dirty color. No matter what.

How do I keep them red or orange? Please help. Getting frustrated.

I had the opposite happen with my micromussa (aka acans), they went from orange and blue to straight red under my AI Primes. I added a T8 actinic strip I had in the recesses of my attic and the oranges are coming back. I’m going to replace the strip with a coralife dual T5 this week. I heard somewhere that certain corals change colors under leds and acans are one of the main offenders. As far as washing out check light intensity and alk stability. I had wild alk swings a while back, 7-8-10-9 dkh, and my corals let me know right away by washing out. I was lucky enough to catch it in time and after some water changes everything went back to normal. The problem was my ATO picking up straight kalk slurry from the bottom of the reservoir.

Are you giving them green and red light? This is an issue with some flourescent proteins when running too much (or only) blues. More of a daylight spectrum will bring out better colors... then you can "blue it up" to look at them later in the day.

I have recently put in some of that spectrum based on Chaswoods spectrum. Will wait and see.

Are these sps, lps, softies, etc?

War coral, red/pink Monti cap, red Digi, Monti Setosa. They all just get dull and washed out coming from under the Radions they were taken from. Takes a a few weeks in the tank to do this. Was running the Mock AB+ spectrum before changing over to your Spectrum.

Zoas seem to keep their red or orange though.

They were probably receiving more par under the radions. Your overall intensity is pretty moderate.

Actually, they seemed to be getting less. I used a Lux meter and in a full 22 inch waterline Red Sea Reefer, he was hitting only 21k Lux.

I'm hitting 20k at 50w in 15 inches of water. Was thinking maybe I was too high on Par.

I got two bits of Setosa recently and I've been using them as a Par marker. Lower par keeps it Orange and with higher par it shifts to Pink.
One is just below mid tank and it's shifted just a tad to an orange-ish pink. It's not as glowing bright as it was as when it just got in. The one that is a bit higher up has gone to a reddish pink. Almost no orange. They are about 3-4 inches difference in height.

Don't know why.

I don’t know enough about lux to par comparisons to give an opinion, but I know my hydra 52s intensity is much higher than yours and I don’t have any problems keeping orange and red corals. What are your other parameters? Alk, no3 and po4?

Well my P04 is 0.01-0.03
Nitrates 15-20
Alk 9
Calc 440

The LEDs are 16 inches off the surface as you had suggested for better blending.

Lights are now 50w set at your current spectrum. Coming does from about 65w as I experienced some paling. Thinking it was due to PO4 previously being 0. Growth has been better since lowering and colour has improved. It's just that the colours are an ugly shade of red and stuff doesn't glow like in other tanks I've seen in person.

Get your po4 up closer to 0.08-0.15
Having that done since I read your coral thread. Dosing Acropower and a little Reef Roids to keep food in the tank. Will keep reporting in as I think this has been the issue with these threads. People come in with problems but leave without a word when they've received results.

What are your export methods?

What are your export methods?
Bubble Magus Nac 5.5, DIY Algae Scrubber dialed back to allow nutrients to rise, water changes with NSW. If phosphates get above 0.1 Lanthanum to take it back to 0.03. Haven't done this in a while though. Scrubber has handled phosphates so far.

Take your scrubber offline until they get to 0.10. What export methods did the radion tank have?

Huge Vectra skimmer, Gfo, NSW changes. Higher fish population but I dose aminos to compensate.

Unsure of it's current nutrient stats. Alk 9, Cal 420, Mag ?
