Hydrogen peroxide dip

I’m going to be dipping my zoas in hydrogen peroxide to get rid of the algae. How much should I use, what type and how long. Any tips you have would be great. Thanks

Straight 3% peroxide is safe for a few minutes.

I agree with the straight 3% peroxide (no dilution). I dip my zoas for 30-45 seconds depending on the algae growth and then straight back into the tank.

I dilluted my peroxide when I dipped my frags. Cloves and zoas didn't open for a day but algea is gone!

30 seconds may not be long enough. Every zoa that goes in my tank dips in 3% for 3 min, after that they go into a second bath of tank water where I use a turkey baster to gently remove the excess peroxide, then back to tank.

Using this I have never lost any zoas, removed all but bubble algae, they open in a day, in worst case one opened 2 weeks later.

Peroxide is a a chemical and if sold as 3% for medical shouldnt matter for brand, it'll all be the same. I believe the expiration is more that the bottle could start leeching or the possibility of contamination by the consumer.

As a comparison I know in my chem labs we had the brown glass bottles that were dated as bottled in late 90s they were still viable for our expiraments.

I just dipped a Yuma and Florida. In straight peroxide only about 20 seconds then a bowl of tank water and I turkey basted the frag to blow everything off.

Peroxide worked. 2 out of the 3 frags I got had hitch hikes. One bristleworm and one starfish.

The Florida looks great but the Yuma looks a little stressed. Some tissue on the outskirts are little loose. The transport from the lfs could have added to the stress too tho.
