The dreaded colonial hydroids it is. I am going to "go nuclear" on mine as soon as I get a tank cycled for my inverts.

Peppermint shrimp do wonders on hydroids! Not 100% sure what they would do on colonial style though, but worth looking into!

They didn't touch mine unfortunately. There is a chemical that is reported to kill them (I forget the name) but it also kills your inverts so I have to move my starfish and other inverts to another tank for a couple of months while I treat the reef. I already bought the stuff. I just need to get the 2nd tank set up.

Okay, well we're glad you tried that at least! We could see how the colonial ones would be intimidating to the shrimp. Sounds like you're on the ball. Good luck!

this tank has been up for 18yrs vermetids, plague discosoma, and now these. bought a reefer 450, new lights, and 90lbs dry rock now cycling in a 55.
fish and cleaner shrimp will carry over all else is gone. will cook the rock
build thread will ensue

how do these things spread? lofe cycle? i am currently rebooting/ new build and want to carry over fish shrimp starfish into new tank/new rock. also skimmer return pump, heater, probes.

want to AVOID any cross contamination. with hydroids and vermtids

Did you ever get any answers to this? I don't mind how they look but they're right next to some liams polyps I have.
