Hydroid problem

Anyone know how to get rid of these?

This is not my picture, but it is the exact species of hydroids I am having issues with.
Please chime in.

The only way is to manually scrub them or pull them off...most of them dont harm corals but they just look really bad in colonies.....

Good luck.....and if u see anything that looks like baby jellyfish on ur glass, get them off..they are hydroids before they are a polyp

Mine are harming my corals, especially my zoas. The problem is that I would need to take some large rocks out to manually remove them. I tried scrubbing them with a tooth brush in the tank but they didn't seem to budge. They haven't bothered my chalices or favia's yet Hope it stays that way.

Any meds or fish that would work?

Yes..

"Aeolids and some dendronotaceans, such as Doto, prey on most families of hydroids, and in most cases each nudibranch species specialises on one or a few species of hydroid."

I didnt know any creature ate hydroids! If you find one of those slugs i would go with that to get rid of them

Ive manually removed mine to ,only, the under side of large base rocks..so they arent visible

When you removed them did you take you rock out of the tank?

Did you just use a tweezers?

I used a wire brush on the rocks, with some heavy heavy srcrubing

And if there was any hydroids on any frags i used a razor blade and wire brush to remove them..it wasnt easy, but over time you notice the population of them decreasing

Thanks KLR. Looks like I will be getting the razor blade and a wire brush ready for a hydroid fight tomorrow night. I will shower my tank with a water change after the battle.

Thats all i can tell you to do,it didnt seem like it was working at first,but slowly youll realize there arent as many

This seems like an easier solution. I only have 2 clowns, a wrasse and a couple mandarins. I have been feeding ova and I think this could be the problem.....too many small pieces of food. Should I just spot feed large mysis to my fish???

Not at all trying to question your knowledge, but it is your first post on here.... have you had experience with this method? It does sound like it could work.

Question you must! :bigsmile: spoonfeeding never works lol. Whatever type of thing you have is a filterfeeding,stinging nasty booger. Your fish will be fine for a week with no food (let them hunt pods) if you can add a filter sock that would help a bit too, these infestations are normal and probably were on your LR, they will pass
