I think I found Hydroids in my tank. Would this be a hydroid? It

looks very similar to some of the ones I have seen in my searches.

Its a droid. Can be removed easily with edge of a credit card into a net and flush it!

My tank is still relativly new with no coral yet. I was thinking I would let them go and watch them a bit since I have only seen 3. Since this is my first saltwater tank alot of the things people call ugly or nuisance actually provide a lot of enjoyment for me.

I had one with coral and all kinds of stuff. I just left it lol. Then it disappeared and I never seen it again

They are common in a new tank. For some reason, they seem to be present for a little while and then they usually disappear never to be seen again! I understand the enjoyment...I had them when my tank first started and I was darned excited to finally see something alive in all that water...besides algae!

algae isn't a big issue for me. I started with a baby yellow tang that my wife has named fatty. I have yet to see anything other than diatoms or turf that stays around more than an hour.

Are they bad?
They can sting certain corals and colonize as they are capable of attaching themselves to any surface in the tank. Not acceptable in my tanks.

I would probably feel the same way if I had coral at this point. If they look to be colonizing I may have to start scraping but for now I think I will let them be. They only seem to be on the areas where pods are starting to hang out for the moment.

Your call but once others energe or the colonize or get out of control- you will have a chemical battle to rid of them as normai dip will not rid of them. Its more than scraping once they reach rocks and filter itakes, etc

Would these be them once they reach rocks and grow?

Pic a little fuzzy
Hard to tell

Can't get better picture of this one as its position behind glass bends the light and can't get more focused. I saw another one in a closer spot but its hiding now. Basically they are quarter to half inch long slender glassy tubes with what looks like tail fins at the top that are wave swept. It is definitely not aptaisia. They hide back into holes in the rock. Just noticed them first time today, but I do have a lot of the tiny hydroids on the glass so I was thinking maybe these are what happens when they establish and get larger?

SAME- I understand that it just takes time but we thought that maybe this was algae? Come to find out we have these little jerks all over the tank and have now had to move the coral onto a frag rack while we figure out what were going to do.
