Noticed two small aiptasia on a zoa frag this afternoon. Pulled the frag and super glued over where they were. I have noticed this frag has digitate hydroids which I know will go away on their own. On further inspection I saw what looked like potentially small aiptasia or a different type of hydroids. I tried to get as clear a picture as I could. The thing that makes me think a type of hydroid is that it looks like it has tentacles and then continues further up the same stalk with more tentacles. Thanks for the help!!

I pulled the plug and peroxide dipped. Don’t want to take any chances. I cut a few polyps of the zoa off the plug at the bottom away from the hydroids and glued to a fresh plug. Moved the frag to my frag tank to monitor! Anything else I can do? Should I not take any chances and just toss the whole plug. I’m destined to not ever keep an eagle eye zoa. Every time I have tried over the years something has happened to it!

Thing are looking up! The polyps I cut off the frag plug away from the hydroids are opening up and I don’t see any signs of the hydroids! Will keep monitoring for a while so I don’t introduce to the display. I had this particular frag in the display for a month before they decided to show up!

Yes they do suck...
I read that they will eventually disappear with time as long as you don't overfeed your tank. Starve out as some on the forum would say .

i actually have these in my tank. they started to spread like hell when i was feeding a lot of frozen foods into my tank. I then used putty to plug them up which made my rockscape look ugly! To make it worse... the colonial hydriods ended up peeping through the putty... so that was a big waste of time!

All i can do is just feed with pellets so its more controlled and hopefully starve these guys out over time. Some on the forum claim that with time... they will just simply disappear.

That was my initial thought as my tank ages they will probably go away. But in a newly setup display I didn’t want to take any chances. The polyps I saved from the plug have opened up more since removing the hydroids so I’ll take that as a plus!

yup nuke em while your tank is new.... if its older and established (mine is somewhere in the middle) then it def will be harder to get rid of them with all these corals etc around....

i hate those things lol! they sting corals too pff!!!
