I have what i believe are hydroids. They expend from the rocks and sway around. They are in random spots where coral lives on the rock. I’ve read these are bad and others say they cause no harm. Is there a consensus on these things?

I have them too . Not sure it's like white stringy thing sways and shows up when it's dark right , anyone can pinch in ? Please

I see them during the day but at night they do seem to get longer and more of them come out

I’m not able to photograph the ones I have but here are some photos I found that matches

Digitate Hydroids. I've never had any problems with them, but I have seen plenty of threads where other people were. They're really more of an irritant than anything else. If you don't have any corals nearby they pose no threat, but if they're taking up some prime real estate you might want to smother the hole with some epoxy.
